The Juvenile Detention Center provides temporary and safe custody of juveniles that have criminal charges and require a restricted environment for their own protection or the protection of the public.

The Virginia Beach City Public School District provides a formal education program for all youth placed in the center. Teachers instruct on all core classes and special education classes and also teach life skills, vocational skills and GED preparation.
Medical: Contact Nursing or Mental Health Staff 385-1220
Family Nurse Practitioner, LPN, Mental Health Clinician & Licensed Clinical Social Worker on staff. Each resident receives a medical and mental health screening during the admission process and a physical exam within 5 days of admission. The Detention Center will attend to all immediate medical needs. Other medical needs will be the responsibility of the guardian. The Mental Health Clinician will provide crisis counseling and referral services as needed and psycho-education groups to each resident.
Post Disposition: Contact Post Disposition Coordinator 385-1220
This is a dispositional alternative for juvenile offenders who meet the program criteria and who may benefit from short-term confinement and treatment while in a controlled setting. This is a co-ed 15 bed program serving court-ordered youth sentenced for a maximum of 180 days. Each Post Disposition program resident receives therapy and family counseling services from the Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
