Families for a Lifetime is a partnership between the City of Virginia Beach agencies and local non-profit family-centered organizations. Families are provided with information and resources to support and strengthen the parent-child relationship.
Celebrating Children is an annual event held at Mount Trashmore park, 310 Edwin Drive, Virginia Beach. It begins with a free family 1.5 mile walk-run around Lake Trashmore. All participating children are awarded a medal for their efforts (sorry parents). Trophies are awarded for the first two individuals, first family, and the first Military family to cross the finish line. Schools participating in the School Challenge also have the opportunity to win a trophy for their school by having the most participation from the school. Following the walk-run there is live entertainment and child-friendly games and activities. Community agencies and vendors provide displays with interactive exhibits to educate parents and promote healthy parent-child interactions. All activities at this event are free to the public.
