How do I find out what jobs are available?
Visit the WAVE (Web Application for Virginia Beach Employment) to search for jobs that are currently available. A list of available positions can be viewed 24-hours-a-day on any computer with Internet access. Click here to access the WAVE.

How does the application process work?
Applicants will complete their applications online from any computer with Internet access. After the closing date Human Resources will screen all of the applications. The hiring department will contact the applicants that will be interviewed. You may check the status of your application after the closing date by logging into the WAVE.  After a final selection is made, all applicants will be notified by email or regular mail.

Who will see my application if I use the online WAVE site?
Your application is on a secure web server and will be available to the Human Resources Department and the interviewer(s) for the specific job opening for which you apply. If the same position becomes available in a different department or with a different supervisor, your application may be reviewed for that opening by the responsible supervisor. The City of Virginia Beach does not share its database with other companies or localities.
Can someone help me complete the online application?

Human Resources staff members are available to help applicants get started and to answer questions about the online WAVE site. Visit the Human Resources Department at 2424 Courthouse Drive, Building 18, Room 106, Virginia Beach, VA, Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. or call (757) 385-4157.

What if I do not have a computer or access to the web?
There are a number of ways you can get access to the WAVE:
The Department of Human Resources, Municipal Center, 2424 Courthouse Drive, Building 18, Room 106, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Any of the public computers located at all Virginia Beach Public Libraries. You will have to sign up to use a computer and there may be a 30-minute time limit. The Libraries are open Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and some locations offer Sunday hours (October-May), 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The Central Library is open Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Visit Libraries web site for additional information.

When/how can I make changes to my application?
