1,000 Homes for 1,000 Virginians

During April 16-18, 2012, South Hampton Roads cities and local nonprofits participated in the 1,000 Homes for 1,000 Virginians Campaign Registry Week. Volunteers canvassed the streets and woods of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach and Western Tidewater to identify and create a detailed registry of the region's homeless. This data will be used to prioritize the most vulnerable homeless individuals and families for permanent housing opportunities as they become available. The goal of the program is to house people as quickly as possible to reduce their risk of more serious illness or death.
