Each year, Housing’s Code Enforcement Division takes part in the city’s Hotel/Motel Task Force Inspection Program. This annual activity is in part the result of the recommendations of the 2000 City Manager’s Resort Advisory Committee. The Task Force is comprised of inspectors from Code Enforcement, the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Health Department. The inspectors meet and coordinate the inspection of every hotel and motel throughout the city in an effort to ensure that safe, decent, and sanitary accommodations are provided to the guests. A percentage of the total rooms within an establishment are inspected.
The efforts of the Code Enforcement inspectors and the other members of the Task Force have proven to help promote proactive maintenance by the hotel/motel staff. The management and maintenance staff have become aware of what the inspectors are looking for and often make necessary repairs prior to the scheduled inspections.
Even after the scheduled inspections conclude, the Task Force does have to meet occasionally to investigate complaints received from guests or through the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
