“Support Firefighters, Support Your Community,”
Online applications for Volunteer Support Technicians were accepted in November 2013. Candidates are now in the polygraph/background stage.
WHAT THEY DO:
Volunteer Support Technicians support firefighters with on-scene operations in the City of Virginia Beach. They man the Volunteer Support Trucks, one of which is shown above. After receiving training, they provide the required air, lighting and specialized equipment that are necessary to support firefighting. Support Techs also assist in hose packing, equipment placement, scene accountability, and other non-hazardous duties assigned by the Incident Commander.
HOW YOU CAN, TOO:
The 8-week training Volunteer Support Technician training program typically begins in the spring, with applications due in the fall. Classes are held Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00am through 5:00pm at the Fire and EMS Training Center, 927 S. Birdneck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
