The Virginia Beach Fire Department developed a US&R Training site in 1996 and is utilized to enhance our FEMA US&R Team, VIRGINIA TASK FORCE 2, in its knowledge, skills and abilities while operating in structural collapse environments. Each year the Virginia Beach Fire Department hosts the FEMA Structural Collapse Technician School. This school is designed to instruct students, from around the world, in disciplines such as Breaking and Breaching concrete, Shoring techniques that can be applied to reinforce damaged structures and Heavy Lifting and Moving of steel, concrete and debris. The US&R site is very dynamic in nature and has grown tremendously over the past few years. New props have been incorporated into the site that have been developed through "lessons learned" from previous USAR Team deployments and training sessions.
