Fire Deputy Chief Terrence J. McAndrews
has served the Virginia Beach Fire Department since 1979, being a member of Tidewater Regional Fire Academy Class #1. He has served in a variety of operational roles from firefighter to command level officer as well as a variety of administrative roles dealing with budget and finance, grants, training, and the Emergency Response System. Chief McAndrews has provided oversight for various special operational functions such as the Technical Rescue Team, the Marine Response Team and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Urban Search and Rescue Team VA-TF2. Chief McAndrews sits on several regional boards including the Tidewater Emergency Medical Services Board and the Fire Science Advisory Board for Tidewater Community College.
Chief McAndrews was appointed Deputy Chief of Services on January 16, 2009 and oversees all administrative functions of the department including personnel and development, research and analysis, strategic planning, finance, and fire prevention.
Chief McAndrews holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Old Dominion University and a master’s in public administration from Troy University. He received his Chief Fire Officer designation in July, 2008 and is a nationally registered paramedic.
