Fire Deputy Chief Dave Hutcheson is a 25-year veteran of the Virginia Beach Fire Department. He was promoted to Operations Deputy Chief on July 16, 2013. As a District Chief, David was assigned to the North Division. Previously he was assigned as the C Shift Commander and was a Hazardous Materials Specialist in charge of the VBFD Hazardous Materials Team. He is an original member of VA-TF2 US&R Team and is currently a Plans Team Manager. He serves on the Virginia State Chiefs Mid-Atlantic Expo and Symposium Conference Planning Committee. He has served as the oversight manager for the Fire Department’s Honor Guard, Awards Committee, and Explorer Post Program.
Deputy Chief Hutcheson was an original member of the Technical Rescue Program when it began at Company 10 in the early 1990s. During his tenure as Captain, he was the first Recruiting Officer for the Virginia Beach Fire Department and was then transferred to Company 3 after the 9/11 attacks to assist with the large amount of anthrax calls the city was receiving. As a Battalion Chief, he was the Aide to the Fire Chief and the Public Information Officer for four years and was then assigned as an operational Battalion Chief in Battalions 1 and 3 until his promotion to District Chief.
David attended Hampton University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration. He has finished his fourth year of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.
