Even though each person's capabilities and needs may be different, there are steps that can be taken to prepare for all types of disasters. You will need to take into consideration how an emergency may affect you, your family, and friends. By assessing personal needs, an emergency plan can be developed to fit individual needs.
Your emergency plan should include items that you would normally use on a daily basis (home health services, respirator, medications, oxygen, dialysis, life sustaining equipment, electrical equipment) and what you would need to do if these items were limited or not available.
Family members or friends who are visually impaired, hearing impaired, mobility impaired, non-English speaking, or those individuals with special medical conditions, mental retardation, dementia, and those not having transportation may need assistance during a disaster situation.
