Captain Raj Islam
Captain Raj Islam has served with the Department of Emergency Medical Services since 1999. He oversees all Instruction Supervisors and EMS staff at the VBEMS Training Institute as well as EMS Training programs for the Virginia Beach Emergency Response System. He is a National Registry Paramedic and a Life Member at Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad. Captain Islam holds various instructorships including ACLS Instructor, PALS Instructor, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, and an OEMS Emergency Operations Instructor. Additionally he holds two Master’s Degrees. One is a Master’s in Public Administration from Old Dominion University and the other is a Master’s in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness from Virginia Commonwealth University. Lt. Lani Deforest
has been an Instruction Supervisor with the Training Division since 2000. She coordinates EMT and EVOC training, assists with First Responder, CPR and ACLS training. She also sits on the state's ALS Grants Funding Committee. Lani is a member of the Courthouse Rescue Squad, Inc. She holds instructor credentials for EMT, CPR, ACLS, and VAVRS EVOC. Lt. Eric Deforest

Lt. Jerry Barnes
has been with the Department of Emergency Medical Services since this September 1999. Instructor Barnes is a National Registry Paramedic as well as, numerous certificates including Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Cardiac Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support.
Administrative Assistant Mary Anne Blett-Myers
provides administrative support for the Division Chief and the Instructor Supervisors for the EMS Training Center. Mary Anne maintains all rescue volunteer's training records for the department and their Virginia state CEU information. She can also assist you if you need to pickup your new EMS ID badge.
