Who provides funding for the Medavac Services?
Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services in conjunction with the Virginia Beach Police Department has formed a cooperative venture to create Virginia Beach's first Air Med Critical Care Air Ambulance Service. This service is funded by Virginia Beach's general fund of the taxpayers.
Does Virginia Beach still use Nightingale Air Ambulance Services?
Yes. Sentara Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance base at (Sentara Norfolk General Hospital) will remain as the primary Air Ambulance Service for all hospital-to-hospital transports as well as, on scene emergency in the City of Virginia Beach when our craft is not available. Rapid Service, Quality care offered by host cooperative agencies is Virginia Beach EMS' goal of providing excellent pre-hospital emergency medical services.
When you pick up someone who is injured, where do you take them?
We typically transport patients to facilities that best fits the patients needs. Although many people are familiar with trauma centers, there are other facilities which we transport patients. The hospital to which we transport is generally dictated by our protocol. We will typically transport patients to the closest hospital that is appropriate for their injuries. We will always advise ground EMS providers or police personnel of our facilities our intended destination so that family members may be notified.
