Traffic Court

Please follow these instructions for a continuance of your court date.

If your court date is 9 business days or less from this date, you must fax your request to (757) 385-1063 or appear at our office in person, between the hours of 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, except holidays.

 

If your court date is 10 business days or more from today's date, please submit your continuance by mail.

 

Your written request must include: full name, current mailing address, present court date, arresting officer's name, offense, and a reason for your request.

 

There is no guarantee that your case will be continued. It will be your responsibility to call back the afternoon of your court date or the following business day to find out if your case has been continued. You may also visit our web page, at www.courts.state.va.us to inquire about your continuance request.

 

We cannot accept continuance requests by telephone.

 

Public Defender Information
To determine if you qualify for a Public Defender, you should appear in the Traffic Division Office between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm no later than 10 days before your court date. If the public defender has already been appointed and you need to contact their office, please call (757) 385-6050.

 

Appeal Information
In order to appeal a case, the defendant or their attorney must appear in person at the Traffic Division Office within 10 calendar days of the conviction. After the 10 calendar days, the defendant has lost the right to appeal the case.

Research Requests
Please follow these instructions for requesting records: If you wish to obtain a certified copy of a final disposition, please send $2.00 per charge. If, in addition to a certified copy of the final disposition, you request copies of additional documents from the case file, there is an additional fee of fifty-cents ($.50) per page.

 

If you request a copy of the case paper before the court date or final disposition, the fee is $1.00 per charge for the first two charges and fifty-cents ($.50) for each additional document thereafter.

 

Please send your request to: Virginia Beach General District Court, Traffic Division, 2425 Nimmo Parkway, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23456-9057. We accept checks and money orders drawn on a Virginia financial institution. You also need to include a stamped addressed envelope with your request. Please include the following information:
