
The mission of the Department of Museums & Historic
Resources is to develop a cultural environment in Virginia Beach that
encourages public involvement in science and history. The mission of the Department
is accomplished by:
- Operating the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center to inspire conservation of the marine environment through education, research and sustainable practices.
- Operating the Francis Land House, Lynnhaven House, Adam Thoroughgood House and the Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville Museum inside the Renaissance High School; overseeing the City grant and building use of the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum at the deWitt Cottage, and administering a grant to the Old Coast Guard Station Museum.
- Leading the coordination of the development of the City’s museum and historic site resources and attractions for the tourism industry.
