Councilmember Wood is serving his third consecutive term on City Council. A 1981 graduate of Princess Anne High School, he earned a bachelor of science degree with special attainments in commerce from Washington and Lee University in 1985. He served as a Virginia Beach police officer from 1985 to 1988 and currently is vice president of J D & W, Inc., a commercial general contracting firm which specializes in renovations, new construction and design/build work. He is a past chairman of the Transportation District Commission of Hampton Roads and has served as a commissioner since 2003.
His Council Liaison responsibilities include the Audit Committee, Hampton Roads Transit, the Volunteer Council, the Town Center project and the Health Services Advisory Board.
A Rotarian since 1995, he is a past president of both the Rotary Club of Cape Henry and the Tidewater chapter of the Washington and Lee Alumni Association. He has served on the boards of the Virginia Beach Public Schools Education Foundation, the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, YMCA Camp Silver Beach and the Little Neck Swim and Racquet Club. He has coached youth soccer and basketball, chaired a Cub Scout pack and led the Tidewater YMCA Indian Guides program.
