The Arts and Humanities Commission "shall serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council" to encourage the development of programs in the arts and humanities in the City.
The Commission shall also bring into closer cooperation all local and regional arts organizations for the benefit of all citizens; provide information and assistance to such organizations when feasible; serve as the coordinating group through which shall be channeled all City funds appropriated to organizations promoting the arts and humanities; and coordinate efforts to secure federal and state funding for programs in the arts and humanities.
The scope of this Commission is limited to groups which qualify as a registered non-profit tax-exempt group and which have, as a stated purpose, the furtherance of the arts and humanities through the provision of programming and/or services designed to benefit the citizens of Virginia Beach.
